The leadership of the Nigerian Youth Congress, Osun state (NYC), in collaboration with key student and youth leaders across Osun State, hereby expresses strong support for the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development in Osun State, Hon. Olagunju Moshood Olalekan, amidst recent unsubstantiated allegations made by a group under the banner of the Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens (CCNC).
While we uphold the democratic right of individuals and organizations to voice their concerns, we find the CCNC’s recent publication lacking in objectivity, accuracy, and fairness. The claims made regarding the National Youth Conference registration and representation process are not only misleading but also an attempt to politicize a transparent federal initiative.
It must be clearly stated that the National Youth Conference is a Federal Ministry of Youth Development program, with an open registration system that was publicly announced and accessible to all Nigerian youths. Accusing the Osun State Commissioner of manipulating this process is not only misdirected but appears to be a deliberate effort to tarnish the image of a diligent public servant.
Under the leadership of Hon. Olagunju, Osun State has witnessed significant advancements in youth development. Through empowerment programs, grassroots mobilization, inclusive policy formulation, and capacity-building initiatives, the Commissioner has shown commitment to youth welfare in both urban and rural communities.
We, therefore, pass a formal vote of confidence in his leadership and reaffirm our collective support for his continued service. We urge him to remain undistracted by political detractors whose aim is to sow division and gain relevance through controversy.
Of particular note is the gender-sensitive approach adopted in the selection of delegates for the Conference—an inclusive gesture that ensures female youth representation and reflects the progressive ideals championed by the Osun State Government and the Federal Ministry.
We also commend His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, for fostering a governance environment that prioritizes youth inclusion, transparency, and empowerment. We urge him not to allow politically motivated narratives to derail the commendable progress made in youth development.
In conclusion, the Nigerian Youth Congress reiterates its support for credible youth leadership at all levels. We call on all youth groups, including the CCNC, to embrace constructive dialogue and nation-building rather than divisive politics.
