Hon. Olagunju Moshood Olalekan represented HE Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, stood before a diverse crowd at the International Awareness Week of the Deaf and International Sign Language Day in Osun State. The theme of his speech was centered around building an all-inclusive society for the deaf in the state.
Governor Ademola through his
Commissioner for Youth Affairs emphasized the importance of recognizing and acknowledging the rights and needs of the deaf community in Osun State. He highlighted the struggles that many deaf individuals face daily, including barriers to communication, education, and employment. The governor stressed the need for society to come together and work towards creating a more inclusive environment for all residents, regardless of their hearing abilities.
He announced a series of initiatives that would be implemented, aimed at improving the lives of the deaf population in Osun State. The state-wide promotion of deaf culture and awareness, expanded accessibility to educational materials, and the creation of additional sign language training programs were some of these initiatives.
Governor also called upon businesses and employers to ensure that they are providing equal opportunities for deaf individuals in the workforce. He encouraged the implementation of reasonable accommodations and communication assistance to support deaf employees in their professional endeavors.
The governor concluded by pleading with all Osun State citizens to unite and celebrate diversity, inclusion, and acceptance of all people, including the deaf. He emphasized the importance of breaking down societal barriers and building a community that values and respects the uniqueness of every individual.
